Here are seven compelling principles that form the guidelines for a particular American denomination. Read them and ponder this question, "What would your faith community look like if these seven guiding principles guided your congregation?":
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person
- Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
- Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
- A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
- The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
- The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part
Unfortunately, these principles are not likely to be embraced by many evangelical congregations because they come from the "liberal", "heretical"
Unitarian Universalist denomination. It's too bad because these principles represent a great set of guidleines for an evangelical congregation that is may be trying to model true Christian community.
